i rather be silly...

Did you read the papers today? I did and I was totally shocked with what I read.

There was an article in the Lifestyle section of the papers today and it was about how Singaporeans are coping with the recession. So one of the people they interviewed was this 20 year old undergraduate. The family is well off and I guess that is no fault of hers. However, the way that she is portrayed by the papers made her seem like a spendthrift with no clue of the value of money. A basic $500 monthly allowance and she can still ask her parents to pay for other things on top of that.

But that is not what I find disturbing. What was disturbing was the statement she made regarding the actions of a friend. A friend who has only $20 left to spend for the month went to find a part time job to supplement her income. Her reply was that the friend was silly and should have just asked her parents for money.

I think someone needs to understand that not everyone is as well off as she is. And if it were silly to earn your keep, I rather be silly.

a million and one things to do...

Okie, there isn't a million and one things to do. But it sure feels like it.

There are actually 4 more things to do. I've finished 2.

There is still ID presentation slides.
There is ELMo's research proposal.
There is ELMo's research mock exam.
There is LIP's paper.

And this weekend has enough things going on.

I don't want Tuesday to come any faster but I cannot wait for Wednesday to be over.

Ignorance may be bliss but ignorance is no longer an excuse at our age.

the good with the bad...

Today, Pastor wasn't around. So Pastor Pau*l was the standby Pastor. Although this has nothing to do with his sermon, this has something to do with something he said in his sermon. Yes, there is a difference. So what did he said? He said there was joy and there was sadness.

And so that got me thinking. If there was no sadness, then we would not appreciate the joy that we had. The one that has been forgiven much will love much and the one that has been forgiven little will love little.

If there was no sadness in our lives, would we appreciate the joy we have?

dinner...

We had dinner at ELMo's place. It was tidier than expected. I must say that dinner was good, ice cream was good, but the conversation was amazing. It was the typical kind of ELMo conversations. Filled with his questions to our questions and a look into the past of our education. It lasted longer than a typical seminar.

If it were a Mastercard advertisement, it would have gone something like this:

Food for 9 people: $75 (probably)
Conversation: Worth all the laughter.
Lessons to take home: Priceless.

Yes. It was a good 4 hours.

cheated...

I felt like having excessive salt. Like a craving for anything salty. I decided to have some Washabi fries from McDonald's. Imagine my horror when I realised that they forgot to give me the most important thing. THE SEASONING!!! They freaking forgot to give the seasoning, so I had normal fries.

Feel damn cheated.

thank God...

I must admit that the test for M*O's module and the S*FG assignment came back with far better results than I would have expected.

I like to accredit God for His wonderful and abundant grace. Phewww...

the math question...

First of all, I think the rigors of the education system has prevented many of us from seeing how simple a problem can be. And this problem was so much of a problem that it warrants a space on my blog to be remembered forever and ever till blogger dies. And I credit the Youthphoria kids for solving it.

AC = EC = 18m
Line AC, EC and BD are tangent to the circle with centre O.
Find the perimeter of triangle BCD.
Think about it.

Since AB and BM are tangents to the circle, AB = BM = x m
Since ED and DM are tangents to the circle, ED = DM = x m

Therefore, perimeter of
triangle BCD = BC + DC + BD
= (18 – x) + (18 – x) + 2x
= 18 – x + 18 – x + 2x
= 36 m

trying...

I realised that I touch my face when I'm not doing anything. I put my fingers on my jaw, I hold my head, I prop myself with my fingers on my forehead.

I tried on Thursday to not touch my face consciously. After a 2 hour lecture, I realised that might prove impossible. Need to stop touching my face, getting too many pimples.

friday morning...

I just spent the last fifteen minutes of friday morning reading blogs.

Need to get to school.

But it was definitely a good start to the day.
